Ah, spring is in the air (or not, depending on where you live). To break the monotony of spring cleaning, here are three important publishing events taking place in the next week.
- Coach House Books Spring Launch 2013. April 4. The change of season means the unveiling of publishers’ spring lists, and Coach House Books leads the way with a baseball-themed launch party. Nicholas Billon, Tamara Faith Berger, Andrew Faulkner, John Goldbach, Andrew Kaufman, and David Seymour will give short readings of their new and upcoming works, be available for signings and will also, apparently, engage in baseball shenanigans. WIP would like to point out that Coach House always throws killer launches, and highly recommend them. Thursday, April 4, from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm at The Garrison (1197 Dundas Street West, Toronto). Free.
- gritLIT. April 3-7. GritLIT, Hamilton’s Literary Festival, runs all week. Featuring readings, workshops, a writing competition and even a raffle, gritLIT is a must for the publishing-minded in Hamilton. Check out their website for details. April 3-7, various locations in Hamilton, ON; check their website for schedule and ticket details.
- Editor’s Association of Canada Student Networking Event. April 4. The EAC, the professional organization for Canadian editors, invites working veterans, newly-minted and aspiring editors to a unique evening of discussions, food and drink. This is a rare opportunity for novices to mingle with established editors, and is precisely the kind of networking event that we at WIP strongly encourage our readers to attend. Thursday April 4, 6:30 to 8:30 pm, at the Bedford Academy (36 Prince Arthur Avenue, Toronto). Free.
